TREY WOOD INTERVIEW

TREY WOOD INTERVIEW
"Trey Wood is from the deserty state of Arizona. He puts family first and loves to spend time with them in the outdoors, hiking, fishing, kayaking and everything in between. When he’s not hanging with the fam, you can almost guarantee he’s going fast on his skateboard. Grinding further, airing higher and doing it all with incredible style. Trey is the latest and greatest. If you’re not already on the bandwagon, hop on and enjoy the ride."

Explain the first moment or interaction that sparked your interest to try skateboarding?
— When I was about 5 years old my aunt had a boyfriend that skated which really got me fired up on it! After I watched Xgames on tv for the first time I was hooked.

What was your first skateboard setup and how did you get it?
— My aunt bought me a Spider-Man board from Walmart or target when I was 5 and then when I turned 6 I got a Tony hawk birdhouse complete!

Where was your favorite place to skate when you first started and why?
— My favorite place to skate has always been Tempe skatepark and it’s actually the first skatepark I ever went too. I moved right down the street from Tempe park as soon as I turned 18.

Do you remember where you were when you saw your first pro? What was that interaction like?
— The first pro skater I ever met was Kevin Staab. I was about 8 or 9 at the time, and still to this day skating with Staab when I was younger is one of my favorite skateboarding memories.

Do you feel like that interaction motivated you to learn certain tricks or made you want to skate more like that guy/girl?
— After skating with Staab I immediately was trying to figure out how to do backside ollies, it looks like a magic trick when he does it hahah.

How old were you when you first got sponsored? And how long had you been skating at that point?
— I first got sponsored by this local board company called little villian when I was 8 I believe. I had been skating everyday for 2 years straight at that point.

Was the goal to get sponsored or did you not have those expectations?
— I didn’t have really any expectations for skateboarding, the first couple years I skated I didn’t even know sponsors were a thing. My parents came to me one day after skating a local event and told me that little villian said they wanted to give me free boards and I was more than juiced.

Growing up, did you ever have any aspirations to do anything besides skateboarding?
— Growing up I was always outside doing different things, but the only other activities I really enjoyed were other extreme sports. Most the time I was practicing wheelies up the street or setting up jumps on my BMX bike when I wasn’t skating.

When you’re not skating, how do you pass time?
— When I’m not skating I’m probably with family or out kayaking or hiking. I just like being outdoors!

What is your all around favorite wheel? shape, size and formula.
— 56mm skatepark formula P5 side cut. I skate my wheels until I’m forced to get a new pair, for some reason I love old wheels.

Favorite crew to skate with and why?
— I don’t have a specific crew I like skating with, just love skating with ALL my homies in general! Some of the best sessions are with people you’ve never even met before.

If I could be a fly on the wall I’d like to….
— Hmmm there’s not any person that sticks out, I really don’t have much want to spy on anyone though hahah.

If you could do it all over again, would you change anything?
— If I could do it all over again and change something, I wouldn’t! Skateboarding has brought me more joy then I could imagine, I wouldn’t know what to change if I had to change anything.
