Explain the first moment or interaction that sparked your interest to try skateboarding?
— When I was 7 years old my cousin took me to a school, he wanted to skate a three block. I had no idea what he was talking about but I tagged along. We got to the three block and I sat watching him for an hour. He kept kicking out of an ollie and after he gave up I thought, I’d give it a try. Not knowing how to kick out, I stuck one. His reaction gave me a rush, and I felt like I had to do it. I did it within the next couple try’s and it felt fucking sick!.
What was your first skateboard setup and how did you get it?
— My first skateboard was fake. It was shaped like an egg and had two sharks on it. One on the top, one on the bottom.
Where was your favorite place to skate when you first started and why?
— My first local skatepark which was in Santa Paula, it was always fun their, learning new tricks together, everyone would warm up on flat together everything was just so tight there. Felt like a family.
Tell me about the town you grew up in. What was the culture and vibe of the town?
— Well I grew up in Santa Paula and Fillmore, CA. Weekdays with my mom and weekends with my dad. Santa Paula was a little crazy, but always skating the park. Lots of homeless and people on drugs or drunk at that park so there was always something popping off and cops coming checking the area, but yeah pretty crazy park haha. Fillmore was a lot more laid back. We had no skatepark at the time so friends and I would normally skate around town. Didn’t really get bothered so much, not that I remember. I just remember feeling safer in Fillmore than I did Santa Paula, But I loved my friends at Santa Paula and I knew they’d keep me safe.
What was your upbringing like? Brothers? Sisters?
— I’m the youngest sibling of the family. I have two brothers and two sisters. My brothers basically rough housed me as a kid. My sisters and I didn’t really bother, they liked girly music; things I wasn’t interested in I guess.
Do you remember where you were when you saw your first pro? What was that interaction like?
— It was at skateLab in Simi Valley 2010, it was a plan-b demo, the one I wanted to meet was P-Rod. My friend had “ me myself & I” and we would watch that part all the time. I don’t remember what I said to him but meeting him definitely felt fake (unreal).
Do you feel like the interaction with P-Rod motivated you to learn certain tricks or made you want to skate more like him?
— Not after I met him, I feel like I already wanted to be good at 360 flips and wear Nikes because of P-Rod. His buttery 3flips always looked so good to me.
How old were you when you first got sponsored? And how long had you been skating at that point?
— I don’t know if you remember One Way Skate Shop but they sponsored me when I was 10. I think I got one board from them, couple months later they went out of business.
Was the goal to get sponsored or did you not have those expectations?
— Never thought I would be in the shoes I am in now. I just skated. That being said no I didn’t have those expectations.
What is your all around favorite wheel? shape, size and formula.
— Definitely BONES WHEELS, V5 Sidecut, size 54mm.
Favorite crew to skate with and why?
— Damn that’s tough! I would have to say skating with the Rapid Crew, those guys have different energy , way too funny not taking skateboarding so seriously.
If you had to listen to only one band for the rest of your life, who would it be?
— Still haven’t figured out which band haha. Still got time for tomorrow ?
If you could do it all over again, would you change anything?
— Not a single fucking thing.
